CNU, HUD, AIA train housing officials

CNU is organizing a series of regional training seminars for public housing officials. The series builds on CNU's longtime partnership with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The conferences are part of HUD's HopeVI program, a national initiative to replace barracks-style housing projects with new urbanist mixed-income neighborhoods. Previous national training conferences have been tremendously successful, with last year's conference attracting almost 1,000 participants. The regional training sessions will be much more intimate, allowing about 60 participants to get individual attention for their prospective Hope VI projects. Representatives of CNU and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) will teach housing authority and HUD officials about best design practices. Participants will also be treated to tours of Hope VI developments in each of the host cities. Participants are encouraged to bring plans for prospective Hope VI projects in order to receive individual design assistance from the conference organizers. The two-day seminars will be held in Seattle, October 23-24; Boston, November 16-17; Louisville, Kentucky, March 16-17; and Kansas City, Missouri, April 19-20.
