The Collins Center for Public Policy recently formed the Smart Growth Center of Southern Florida to augment Eastward Ho!, a state growth control program that diverts growth in southern Florida from a westward direction, where it threatens the Everglades, back to the eastern coastline areas between Miami and Fort Pierce. The private organization recently received funding from the MacArthur Foundation, which has promised $250,000 per year for five years. The Ford Foundation has also pledged $150,000 for start-up costs.
