Curtis Park West plan submitted

The land use plan for Curtis Park West, one of the first new urbanist neighborhoods proposed on a “brownfield,” inner city site, was presented to the Sacramento Planning Commission in November. The first session for the project’s Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was held, and solutions were discussed for traffic issues, brownfield superfund site clean-up, and questions concerning high-density housing and mixed uses. The 65-acre former railyard is owned by Union Pacific. The railroad company is currently looking for developers to build 350-450 residential units on the site, which is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and Sacramento City College. An extensive light rail transit system, the South Line Corridor, is currently under construction to serve the project, funded by a $200 million federal commitment and slated for completion by 2001.
