Dan Burden, founder of Walkable Communities Inc., has started what he says will be his sixth and final nonprofit organization, the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute, in Port Townsend, Washington. Burden left Glatting Jackson consultants in Orlando, Florida, to lead the new institute, which will be “focused on helping cities and towns throughout the world become more walkable, bikeable, sustainable, socially engaged, healthful (mind, body, spirit) and welcoming by improving the built form.” The Institute is planning several events this year, including a Smart Growth in Small Towns Tour Feb. 1-3 in the Seattle area. The Institute aims to nurture leaders who can shape better towns, villages, and cities.
