Dates are set for CNU IX. Even as you nurse away the jet-lag from CNU 2000, it’s time to put in your Priceline bids, book a hotel room, and reserve a space flight at the new Rose Center for Earth and Space. Now, ULI has independently published an excellent book that uses 18 case studies to illustrate best practices in the construction of new urbanist housing. Density by Design: New Directions in Residential Development is oriented toward developers and financiers, although architects and students could also benefit from its case studies and Vincent Scully’s introduction. The book includes both detailed real estate data and well-written narratives. It is heavily illustrated with well-printed color photos and site plans. The 137-page book is $69.95, softcover. CNU welcomes new staff members James Moore and Laura Otis. Moore, director of advisory services, will cut his teeth by running CNU’s direct outreach projects in the Mountain West and the District of Columbia (see “Regional Partnerships Blossom”). Otis is now CNU’s face to the world, responding to membership issues and assisting with many of our ongoing projects. Christopher Hudson, formerly deputy director, has returned to the private sector.
