Dial Realty of Kansas City, Missouri, began construction

Dial Realty of Kansas City, Missouri, began construction in June on Crescent Creek, a 22-acre Traditional Neighborhood Development in Raytown, a first-ring postwar suburb of Kansas City. A creek that runs through the site will remain open. On the remaining 15 acres, Froehlich Prycior Homes will build 128 units of detached houses, paired houses, townhouses, “green court cottages,” and townhouse courts, complemented by a clubhouse and pool. Kevin Klinkenberg of 180 Degree Design Studio, which designed the project, says the developer is introducing a much-needed mixture of dwellings into a 30,000-population suburb that consists of a monoculture of ranch houses in a car-dependent setting. The Raytown site was undeveloped partly because of steep slopes, which will require grading. Prices will range from about $120,000 to $250,000. Neither the developer nor the builder has worked on TNDs before, but the development team visited built projects — including Doe Mill in Chico, California (see April/May 2004 New Urban News).
