An eight-story building that opened over the last several months in Coral Gables, Florida, features a Publix grocery store on its ground floor and 159 apartments above. The Douglas Grand, as the building on Douglas Road is called, contains 22,000 square feet of loft-style office space in addition to the mid-market apartments and the 47,000-square-foot supermarket. It occupies the site of the Coliseum, a civic structure built in 1927 by Coral Gables founder George Merrick and destroyed for an earlier redevelopment. The developer was Douglas Road Partners, a partnership involving BAP Development.
