An emphasis on urban design inspired by community
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    APR. 1, 2001
An emphasis on urban design inspired by community involvement is evident at an increasing number of architecture schools. The College Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University in South-field, Michigan, has documented one such project in The Youth Village Urban Design Project: Re-Building Detroit for Future Generations. Seniors and graduate students conducted research on economic development and feasibility, held public workshops, and developed an urban plan for an ailing neighborhood in Detroit. The study’s funder, the Northern Area Association, will use the plans to guide redevelopment. For more information contact Thomas Barrie at (248) 204-2870.
