Ground has been broken for the first phase

Ground has been broken for the first phase of Cascade Station, a mixed-use urban center adjacent to Portland International Airport. Designed by LMN Architects of Seattle in collaboration with Calthorpe Associates, Cascade Station incorporates two light rail transit stations into its mix of 765,000 square feet of hotel, retail, and entertainment facilities. Major buildings are concentrated along a tree-lined parkway that ends in an oval plaza, featuring retail space and a transit station. As the project gradually develops, the plan allows for flexibility in density and design detailing to meet market demands, says Bob Tiscareno of LMN. Cascade Station is a joint public/private venture between the City of Portland and developers Bechtel Enterprises and Tammel Crow who agreed to build a 4.5 mile extension of the city’s light rail system in exchange for real estate.
