Harborside, a 120-acre neighborhood designed by DPZ,

Harborside, a 120-acre neighborhood designed by DPZ, is underway in Northeast Richland, near Columbia, South Carolina. Harborside forms a town center to the sprawling, 1,679-acre Lake Carolina master-planned community, which consists of gated pods of conventional suburban homes on a man-made lake. But developer Chuck Mann of Lake Carolina Development Inc. wanted something different for the land zoned for general commercial and multifamily residential uses.
Harborside includes a town square, a swim club, a general store, restaurants, shops, and 350 to 375 residences (including single-family, multifamily, live/work units, and apartments above retail and office). Unlike in the conventionally planned areas, the lakefront is made public.
