Ithaca and Cornell hire Goody Clancy
The City of Ithaca, New York, and Cornell University have jointly hired urban planners Goody Clancy of Boston to write design guidelines for Collegetown, a historic mixed-use center adjacent to the university. Code Studio of Austin, Texas, was also hired to write a code with a strong emphasis on form but that will also deal with Euclidean use issues, according to city planner Leslie Chatterton. The city and university will split the $150,000 fee for Goody Clancy and the $30,000 fee for Code Studio. A charrette is expected to take place early in the spring. The work must be completed by mid-summer so that the new code and guidelines will be in place before a development moratorium expires in October, Chatterton explains. Seventeen firms responded to the city’s RFQ. Other finalists included Sasaki Associates of Boston, Wallace Roberts & Todd of Philadelphia, and Winter & Company of Boulder, Colorado.
