Lawyers unite: A group of CNU member attorneys met at CNU X, and they are continuing their communication via e-mail. To join their e-mail list, write to cnu-attorneys-subscribe@topica.com. CNU is trying to get the new book Greyfields into Goldfields: Dead Malls become Living Neighborhoods into bookstores. Dead mall afficionados can submit their designs for old mall sites to a contest sponsored by the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design, with help from the National Endowment for the Arts. Contestants can pick any dead mall and design a replacement project, and submit it in the autumn. Jurors will give a small award to about thirty first-round entrants; these first-round picks will then flesh out their ideas. In February of 2003, the jurors will select the best of these projects. The contest is timed to encourage students to submit, though the contest is also open to professionals. CNU’s slide library is undergoing a major organization thanks to intern Aksel Olsen. He is cataloging our slides by keyword, by format, and by source. The updated slide library will one day be available on CNU.org — after we get funding for the next phase of website improvement.
