From Main Streets to Eco-Districts
AIA Southern New York, the Preservation League of New York State, Corning’s Gaffer District and the Market Street Restoration Agency are presenting “From Main Streets to Eco-Districts: Greening Our Communities,” a two day conference in Corning, NY from May 20th-21st. Early bird registration is now open.
The event part of a week-long event to celebrate Corning’s historic “main street” and Corning’s annual GlassFest. Our program includes a one-day symposium and a one day workshop with a tour. Early bird member registration (until April 1st) is only $135 for both days including lunch on both days and a fantastic reception and juried art show focusing on the architecture of Corning at an art gallery in town. We are approved for 15 AIA credits (12 HSW and 3LU for the tour) and will also be providing GBCI and APA/AICP continuing education credits.
Any questions, please email our Program Facilitator, Barbara Campagna, at aiasny.workshop@gmail.com. Make sure to register early as spots are limited! https://sites.google.com/a/aiasny.org/chapter-programs/
The program
The Day One symposium, "Rethinking Downtowns Through a Green Lens" is a very timely program focusing on sustainable preservation, walkability, smart growth, downtown revitalization and form-based codes. Kaid Benfield is the opening Keynote (one of the leading voices for smart growth in the country whose blog was identified by Time magazine as one of the top 10 most influential green blogs in the country), the Director of Nashville’s planning department who is one of the form-based code leaders of the country and many more. The Day Two Workshop, "Enhancing Main Street – Making Upper Floors Work Again" will include a tour of upper floors of many buildings in downtown Corning, which are rarely open to the public.
