A manual that tells public works departments how to design thoroughfares consistent with new urbanist principles is expected to be completed by January 15 by Andres Duany, Stephen A. Mouzon, and editor Daisy Kone. The manual will cover thoroughfares ranging from heavy rail, light rail, bus, and expressway to main street, rear alley, bicycle lane, and passage. Mouzon, of PlaceMakers in Miami, says the new manual “is built around the operating system of the Transect to address development in all areas, from the most rural to the most urban.” The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation supported the project. MuniCode Corporation will distribute the manual.
