The new director of planning for the District

The new director of planning for the District of Columbia is well known to new urbanists — Harriet Tregoning is the former secretary of the Maryland Office of Smart Growth and director of the Smart Growth Leadership Institute. She was on the team with about 200 architects and planners who created new urban plans for the 11 municipalities on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi six weeks after Hurricane Katrina. She is a long-time member of the Congress for the New Urbanism. She told the Washington Business Journal of her vision of enhancing the walkable, transit-oriented qualities of the District.
