A new high-density transit-oriented development in Rockville, Maryland, was compared in The Washington Post to the Piazza Campo dei Fiori in Rome. Rockville Town Square, now under construction, is surrounded by multistory buildings with cafes and shops and has similar dimensions to the Campo, says Roger K. Lewis, a professor of architecture at the University of Maryland who participated in the square’s design. Rockville Town Square will host programs and activities. “Rockville’s Town Square has the potential to become an animated destination,” Lewis says.
