One of the fastest growing municipalities in Arizona, Prescott Valley has changed from entirely rural to suburban in the last two decades, and has never had a downtown. Now, public officials in Prescott Valley are following a nationwide trend to retrofit their community with a mixed-use, walkable town center. The new downtown has a town hall on one end, a multiplex cinema on the other, and several blocks of main street are planned in between. Richard Parker, Prescott Valley’s community development director, told the Arizona Republic that the key to moving forward with the downtown plan has been the fact that one landowner, the Fain family, controls the entire parcel and is willing to take a chance on an innovative type of development.
