Parking requirements cut in new Philly code

The old Philadelphia zoning code required one parking space per unit in multifamily residential projects — the new code adopted last week requires three spaces per 10 units, a 70 percent reduction. The demand for more parking and for pedestrian-friendly city neighborhoods is often in conflict, explains the Philadelphia Real Estate Blog. Up until now, the code sided with off-street parking interests — which inadvertently created more curb cuts and removed on-street parking.
