Professional Builder magazine published a recent article highlighting the high sales of several new urbanist projects, citing the appeal of a functioning community and the role of publicity in sales rates. The charrette has proved a key to accelerating project approval, saving time and money for developers and generating media coverage which often translates into strong sales. Projects like Har-Ber Meadows in Arkansas and Orenco Station in Oregon have increased sales by building new homes in community focal points around village greens, and/or supporting retail uses with local transit traffic while the community is developed, according to the article.
