A recent editorial in the Minneapolis Star Tribune described Ted Mondale’s appointment by Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura to head the Metropolitan Council as “an inspired choice.” As a state senator, Mondale authored several pieces of legislation to redevelop old industrial sites and promote more compact and transit-oriented development. His 1995 Livable Communities Act established a fund which has already awarded $36.3 million to expand affordable housing opportunities, clean up polluted sites, and promote new urbanist development.
