Southern Village, a TND two miles south of downtown Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is now eating well. The 6,000-square-foot Weaver Street Market, operated by the largest health food co-op in the Southeast, recently opened, joining the Lumina movie theater in anchoring Southern Village’s downtown. The grocery store features café seating both inside and on a terrace out front.
Community residents purchased more than 300 co-op memberships to support the store. It stands within walking distance of 1,150 households containing approximately 3,000 people. Established by Bryan Properties in 1994 as the first TND in the Research Triangle, Southern Village has leased more than half of its planned 200,000 square feet of office and retail space.
