The Texas Transportation Commission, which oversees the Texas Department of Transportation, appointed an informal urban thoroughfare team that includes John Norquist, CEO of the Congress for the New Urbanism, Scott Polikov of the Gateway Planning Group, and other new urbanists. The commission “desires to promote flexibility in design for urban thoroughfares and include the urban design and planning community” by meeting multimodal transportation needs and the needs of the community as a whole, the commission stated.
