Todd Litman, executive director of the Victoria Transport Policy Institute in British Columbia, wrote a new book from Planners Press, Parking Management Best Practices. The 312-page, $69.95 paperback from the American Planning Association tells how to establish land-use patterns that provide better transit access and how to improve the quality of service, reduce congestion, pollution, and accidents, enhance mobility for nondrivers, and create more attractive communities. “Cost-effective parking management programs typically reduce parking requirements by 20 to 40 percent” while delivering economic, social, and environmental benefits, Litman says. Ideas in the book are summarized in a new free report, “Parking Management: Strategies, Evaluation and Planning,” at www.vtpi.org/park_man.pdf.
