Two kayaking young developers in Colorado break ground on TND

Two kayaking young developers in Colorado expect to break ground in the spring for a 40-acre new urban project overlooking the white water of the Arkansas River about 100 miles west of Colorado Springs. Katie Selby, 28, and her brother Jed Selby, 25, intend to place offices, shops, plazas, parks, and about 400 homes next to what they hope will be the world’s longest white-water kayak park. Their company, GT Properties, hired Dover, Kohl & Partners, to plan the South Main development in Buena Vista, a town where surrounding mountains rise to 14,000 feet. Bill Dobson, head of marketing, says that since the county has a population of 17,000 and is growing at 2 percent a year, “it might be a five- to 10-year project or even longer.” All the housing will be allowed to combine living and working spaces. The project’s main street is angled so that people will have a view of the cupola of a historic courthouse building in the distance.
