Urban redevelopment continues to gain momentum in Milwaukee.

Urban redevelopment continues to gain momentum in Milwaukee. Beer Line B, a project going up on a former brownfield site on the Milwaukee River, now has 480 new homes completed or under construction. “The area has a flavor of San Francisco, with steep hills and views of downtown,” says Michael Wisniewsky of the Department of City Development. He adds that the number of units under construction exceeds the city’s original projections for the area. So far, Beer Line B has drawn $68 million in private investment, and close to 10 acres of land remain open for development. One existing structure has been renovated to include 107 apartments, and five new complexes feature a mix of condominiums, apartments, and townhouses. All parking is absorbed in the interior of blocks or below the buildings. Wisniewsky says there may be enough retail nearby to serve the community, but future retail development is possible on properties on the edge of the site which are permitted for a mix of uses.
