The US Department of Housing and Urban

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has chosen CNU to run an award program, “The New Face of America's Public Housing.” It will recognize HOPE VI projects that best demonstrate innovation and leadership in the transformation of public housing and the lives of residents. As reported last issue, HOPE VI recently won the prestigious Ford Foundation-Harvard University “Innovations in Government” award. HUD staff decided to apply most of the $100,000 prize money toward the award program, which will bring to bear the expertise of CNU, the American Institute of Architects, American Planning Association, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Once winners are selected, CNU will work with HUD to produce a publication that will showcase those projects. The goal is to share these best practices with public housing agencies and other public officials. If you have been involved in HOPE VI, keep an eye on CNU.org — the award program application will be on the web. Attention APA speakers. Are you a CNU member speaking at the March 10 to 14 conference of the American Planning Association? If so, please contact CNU Task Force and Program Manager Sarah Pulleyblank at (415) 495-4472. At APA conferences, it's hard to know who is speaking at what sessions. We want to you — and other APA members — to be able to find the sessions where CNU members are speaking. We are compiling a list to distribute both by e-mail and on paper, at the conference.
