Voting on LEED-ND is under way
ROBERT STEUTEVILLE    SEP. 1, 2009
CNU members began voting on the proposed LEED for Neighborhood Development program Aug. 19 and will continue electronic balloting until Sept. 17. In a statement on the CNU website, the CNU Board and CNU’s representatives on the LEED-ND advisory group urged approval of the neighborhood development rating system, saying it’s the culmination of “six years and many revisions.”
All three organizations that were involved in formulating the program — CNU, the US Green Building Council, and the Natural Resources Defense Council — are conducting votes by their members. Issues concerning LEED-ND were discussed in the July-August New Urban News. Definitions of the three stages of approval and certification of a LEED-ND plan — a “conditionally approved plan,” a “pre-certified plan,” and a “certified neighborhood development” —have recently been clarified.
