About Continuing Education Credits

CNU 19 offered continuing education credits for the following professions, for many of the sessions included in the conference program:

  • Architects (through the American Institute of Architects (AIA))
  • Planners (AICP only through the American Planner Association (APA))
  • Landscape Architects (through the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA))

The AIA, APA and ASLA determine the eligibility of our congress program for credits and require that sessions be finalized before we can apply for credit for them. Given that fact, we will likely not know what sessions will be eligible for accreditation until February 2011, at the earliest.

Many of the breakouts and plenary sessions for CNU 18 were approved for AIA and AICP accreditation (over 170 AIA LU, and over 178 AICP credits). We will make every effort to secure accreditation as early as possible, and then provide information to participants about which session qualify as quickly as we can. Thank you in advance for your patience.

AICP Certification Maintenance (CM) credits

CNU is an official certified AICP CM provider. The list of sessions and the number of credit associated with each session will be posted on this page as soon as the APA approves them. Last year at CNU 18 in Atlanta, APA approved 178.75 credits (View the CNU 18 Continuing Education Credits List (PDF)).

To claim your credits, self-report your credits on the APA website just as you usually do.

ASLA Continuing Education Credits

This year again, most landscape architects will be able to acquire CEC at the Congress. You will need to self-report your attendance to your state. Most states accept the self-reporting system however a few (such as Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania) might not. Most states will require a certificate of attendance listing the sessions attended and the number of credits attributed.

Self-report your credits as you usually do.

AIA Continuing Education Units

CNU is registered with the American Institute of Architects' Continuing Education System (AIA/CES) to provide learning units at a ratio of one credit per hour of instruction. Most sessions receives AIA credits, some qualifying for Health, Safety & Welfare credits to architects. Last year at CNU 18 in Atlanta, AIA approved 170.5 credits (View the CNU 18 Continuing Education Credits List (PDF)).

To claim their credits, attendees are required to sign their name and enter their AIA number at each session they attended to prove their attendance. All the forms are sent to the AIA within 10 days of the congress. Attendees should see the sessions they attended credited on their account within 2-3 weeks.

If you have questions about AIA CES credits, please consult AIA's FAQ.

AIA Certificate of Completion

Architects who are not AIA members can receive a certificate of completion for the sessions they attend which receive AIA credits to submit to their state of registration. To receive a certificate of completion, please fill out the Certificate of Completion Request form by June 24, 2011. A certificate will be sent to you shortly thereafter. Attendance at the session is required. We unfortunately cannot send you a certificate if you did not sign the relevant session attendance list.
