A Planner position is available with the City of Fort Worth Development Services Department. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with administering Historic Preservation and/or Urban Design in Fort Worth.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Historic Preservation, Urban Design, Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, or a related field
- Two (2) years of experience in planning, urban design, research and statistical analysis, or related field.
- Valid Driving License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Methods, principles, and practices of historic preservation, form-based codes, or urban infill development.
- Architectural styles, forms, development periods, and ability to recognize and describe character-defining features.
- Site planning and architectural design techniques and methods.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations applicable to historic preservation and urban design.
- Microsoft Office skills, Adobe Create Suite Skills, and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping skills
- Public participation processes, public approval processes, policy creation, and implementation process.
- Development processes including but not limited to permitting processes, design standards and guidelines, and review process for design projects. Strong communication skills, both verbal and writing, and the ability to work closely with clients.
Job Responsibilities
- Planning for public engagement events and education campaigns.
- Update historic resource surveys, assist in the preparation of ordinance amendments, pursue new designations, or update district standards and guidelines as needed.
- Evaluate applications for alterations or new construction development, and facilitate development in historic, design, and form-based code districts.
- Assist in the administration of the Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission (HCLC), the Urban Design Commission (UDC), or other Boards and Commissions in the Division.
- Prepare clear and concise staff reports and summarize complex subject matters, as well as present design cases at board and commission meetings.
- Interpret and explain City planning and design policies and procedures to internal and external customers.
