Description
The University of Notre Dame School of Architecture’s Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative program manager will help advance the Initiative’s mission of providing assistance to municipalities and nonprofit organizations as they reimagine the built environment.
The ideal candidate has 3-5 years experience working in an architecture or planning firm that specializes in New Urbanism.
About the Position
- Participate as a member of the design team and engage with all aspects of the charrette process: managing charrette team logistics, touring the project site, meeting with clients and local stakeholders, participating in the design process, and lead support the production of the presentation materials.
- Lead the production of the final charrette reports in coordination with the Initiative’s director.
- Support research agenda of the Initiative through production of graphic imagery and development of written content.
- Work with municipal and non-profit partners to identify project needs, participate in community engagement outreach, lead the production of analysis diagrams and ArchGIS base maps (with the support of the Charrette Lab students and student interns), and lead the coordination of charrette logistics.
- New business development: Work with the Initiative’s director to build relationships with existing and future clients.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Working knowledge of the principles of New Urbanism
- Graphic skills: Hand drawing, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop (basic skills required, advanced skills preferred)
About the Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative
The University of Notre Dame School of Architecture's Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative is a "Think-and-Do Tank" that provides assistance to municipalities and nonprofit organizations to improve economic development by reimagining the built environment. Our work targets immediate local impact as well as national and global influence through case studies, design studies, and research. Three interrelated activities form the framework for the Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative: community-based design charrettes, education, and research & policy. Faculty, students, and collaborating professional teams carry out these activities under the leadership of the School’s dean, Stefanos Polyzoides, and the Initiative’s director, Marianne Cusato.

- Creating human-scale walkable communities
- Repairing abandoned, vacant, and underutilized properties
- Reducing critical housing shortages
- Addressing inequities resulting from a legacy of housing and transportation policy
- Mitigating the impact of climate change through sustainable development patterns of growth
This position will work directly with the Initiative's Director, Marianne Cusato and the School of Architecture's Dean Stefanos Polyzoides on our Dean's Charrettes.
