This role supports the Energy and Sustainability goals of the Destination Medical Center Corporation (DMCC).

The Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency (DMC EDA) is the staff that assists the DMCC in planning and executing the DMC Development Plan (a visionary 20-year plan that started in 2015) and adopted strategies for economic development in Rochester, MN. The DMC EDA consists of an experienced team of professionals who execute a comprehensive strategy to steward $585 million of public investment and leverage that investment with the goal of attracting over $5 billion in private investment to the market.

Ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals have been adopted by the DMCC, the City of Rochester, and the local Rochester Public Utility (RPU) which are on track to be 100% renewable by 2030. Reporting through the DMC EDA, the Energy and Sustainability Manager’s responsibilities include effecting the desired energy and sustainability outcomes, and other Energy, Sustainability, and Equity goals that the DMCC adopts. This role also includes participation and leadership opportunities in the further development of strategies and implementation tactics to connect environmental sustainability goals to equitable human health impact as part of the vision of America’s City for Health.

Responsibilities

  • Be the primary interface/liaison between DMC and partners including the City of Rochester, Mayo Clinic, RPU, Energy Integration Committee, Rochester Energy Commission, community groups and other stakeholders regarding sustainability, energy, and health objectives within the DMC District
  • Lead the DMC’s participation in the Downtown District Energy system development, community electrification campaign, electric vehicle strategy, Inflation Reduction Act funding access, and other initiatives as needed
  • Coordinate with major stakeholders of infrastructure and site developments (both public and private) and leverage tools available to effect desired energy, sustainability and health outcomes and meet the GHG reduction targets
  • Prepare and coordinate public engagement supporting Energy, Sustainability, Equity and Health
  • Work with developers, contractors, designers and energy modelers to provide analysis into proposed developments from Energy, Sustainability Equity and Health perspective
  • Create and manage energy and sustainability quarterly reporting for the DMCC Board
  • Coordinate with City staff on building codes, energy codes and designs
  • Coordinate DMC’s participation in the goals around mobility and mode shift within the DMC district

Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with three to five years of energy, sustainability or related experience
  • Conceptual knowledge of the regulated and retail electricity and gas energy industry
  • Understanding ofsustainability best practices, Architecture/SB2030 standards, and green building rating programs including LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL, Fitwel, etc.
  • Experience in collecting data, designing relevant metrics, and reporting to this information in various frames to best fit various audiences - who will have a wide range in background knowledge
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work directly with a variety of people, organizations and diverse communities
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of EDA employees and management

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in related fields and/or non-profit economic development agency experience
  • Relationships with diverse communities and community organizations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental justice impacts and mitigation
  • Relationships with City of Rochester community organizations
