Urban Design Intern

Salary: $20-30/hr

Description
Founded in 2009, Street Plans is an award-winning urban planning, design, and research-advocacy firm with offices in Atlanta, New York, Pittsburgh, South Florida, and the San Francisco Bay Area. We partner with a range of public, private, non-profit, and foundation clients to advance human-centered transportation, public realm, and urban design projects that create more inclusive and resilient communities. We are a passionate team of architects, planners, and urban designers known globally as the leaders of the Tactical Urbanism movement.

Candidate

  • a student enrolled in a degree program in architecture or urban planning and design (graduate program preferred)
  • based in the Bay Area this summer
  • comfortable working remotely & have a dedicated office space free from noise and interruptions in your home or coworking space.
  • willing & able to travel to local project sites for in-person meetings with partners, clients, or colleagues up to 2-3 times per week.

Duties

  • support project management and design team with project tasks
  • support preparation of analysis, studies, presentations, proposals and reports
  • assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation
  • help develop technical drawings that meet project deliverables
  • assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis

Requirements

  • strong communication & collaborative skills
  • experience in schematic design & design development
  • ability to present and communicate complex data in a clear visual manner -excellent time management & strong organizational skills
  • self-motivated & comfortable working from home and in a hybrid environment

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient with the use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator required, Photoshop a plus)
  • Possessing introductory/intermediate level visualization skills in additional key software programs (Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit, or other comparable parametric design software)
  • GIS analysis and implementation in design is a plus
