GoTriangle is looking for a Senior Transportation Planner to join our team. This is your opportunity to shape transit initiatives that serve the diverse communities of Durham, Orange, and Wake counties while helping to drive the future of sustainable, regional transportation.

About GoTriangle:

Since 1989, GoTriangle has served as the regional public transportation authority for Durham, Orange, and Wake counties. We provide vital services including regional and express bus, paratransit, ridematching, vanpools, and more. We also support commuters through resources like the Emergency Ride Home program and operate the GoTriangle Regional Information call center. Our service area includes key communities such as Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, and the Research Triangle Park.

Your Role:

As a Senior Transportation Planner, you’ll support the development and execution of GoTriangle’s planning program, working on significant regional projects that impact the daily lives of thousands of residents. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with key stakeholders, managing consultant teams, and working with various departments to ensure that GoTriangle continues to deliver on its mission of enhancing regional mobility. Reporting to the Manager of Planning & Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), you’ll contribute to the success of initiatives that support transit infrastructure and long-term planning efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • GIS & Technical Planning: Use GIS and other technical tools to perform analyses and create reports that support long-range planning and infrastructure projects.
  • Strategic Planning: Help shape GoTriangle’s regional transportation projects, contributing to the agency's full involvement in major transit initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective working relationships with local, regional, state, and federal partners.
  • Consultant Management: Lead efforts to secure funding and manage consultant studies, overseeing scope, schedules, budgets, and project quality.
  • Presentation & Reporting: Develop materials and present transit project updates to the GoTriangle Board of Trustees, local government boards, and community groups.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work with GoTriangle teams in finance, operations, transit partnerships, and more to ensure comprehensive project integration.

Areas of Focus:

  • Long-Range Transportation Planning: Collaborate with Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and local municipalities on travel forecasting, development of Metropolitan Transportation Plans (MTPs), and ensuring that transit priorities are integrated into regional highway projects.
  • Transit Capital Planning: Lead efforts to plan and implement transit infrastructure, including park-and-rides, bus stops, and maintenance facilities. Support the design and review of site plans to achieve outcomes that align with best practices in transit- supportive design.
  • Environmental Planning: Manage environmental review processes, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations for major capital projects.
  • Transit-Oriented Development (TOD): Collaborate with local governments and stakeholders to integrate economic development and land-use planning that supports transit-oriented growth.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field. A Master’s degree and AICP certification are preferred. Four years of progressively responsible experience in transportation or transit planning is required.
  • Skills: Strong project management and communication skills are essential. Proficiency in GIS, SharePoint, and the Microsoft Office suite is required. Experience with project management software like e-Builder is a plus.
  • Knowledge: A deep understanding of state and federal transportation planning requirements and consultant procurement processes is necessary.
