Urban Designer & Planning Project Coordinator
Salary: $77,312.40 - $96,640.50

Description
The Urban Design Center is in the Design + Preservation Division of the City of Charlotte Planning, Design and Development Department. The Urban Design Center consists of 6-7 team members. Candidates will be a part of a team and can expect a fast-paced environment and should excel in communication skills.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support on Urban Design Center projects and programs.
- Lead Placemaking projects and manage budgets from design through construction.
- Lead planning processes, write reports, and produce high-quality graphics and materials.
- Provide design guidance to city Capital Projects, including understanding of constructability.
- Work with other departments on major initiatives (e.g., Corridors of Opportunity, Strategic Mobility Plan, Community Area Planning, etc.).
- Provide design subject matter expertise and participate in regulatory processes (rezoning, design review committee, code compliance).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience in urban design principles, practices, and their applicability to the community
- Experience leading projects and implementing project plans
- Knowledge of and experience carrying out community engagement plans
- Experience working with design and development professionals
- Ability to collaborate within internal and external organizations
- Experience in presenting and working with with diverse audiences and all segments of the City’s population.
- Technical skills including proficiency with all Adobe Suite products, AutoCAD, ArcGIS Pro, and SketchUp and post-rendering software, hand sketching, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Four-Year degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Science or related degree, with a strong preference that it be supplemented by a Master’s Degree in above fields of study.
- Five years (4) years of urban design experience in multiple areas of practice (notably urban design, public space planning, placemaking, policy planning and implementation).
