Send Your Session Proposal for CNU 28.Twin Cities
The annual Congress is CNU’s flagship event, where over 1,500 interdisciplinary-minded policymakers, planners, urban designers, developers, and advocates gather to debate and discuss trends and challenges related to building places people love.
The Congress exists not only to educate and inspire, but also to catalyze engagement and collaboration across all placemaking disciplines. It builds a network of passionate people from a wide range of public and private sectors, offering them many ways to learn from each other, from speakers, and from local residents, through hands-on participation in workshops and mobile tours; acquire valuable new skills in planning, coding, community advocacy, development, and urban design; and debate and discuss new strategies from leaders in dozens of fields.
The Congress for the New Urbanism invites you to help shape this one-of-a-kind event by proposing a session for CNU 28.Twin Cities to be held in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 10-13, 2020.
Session proposals can be submitted through November 15, 2019. Submitters will be notified immediately that their proposal was received and notified of the status of their session no later than December 31, 2019.
CNU is looking for complete session proposals that discuss a range of issues related to building healthy, resilient, and affordable neighborhoods and cities in the 21st century.
This includes, but is not limited to, sessions that address transportation and mobility, adapting to a changing climate, housing solutions (affordable and otherwise), architecture and urban design, coding, development, open space, suburban retrofit, implementing new urbanism with local governments, challenges facing cities in the 21st century, regional cooperation, public health, art, and tactical urbanism.

SESSION CRITERIA
The best Congress sessions are interactive and engaging, offering new ideas and fresh approaches to challenge and expand the work of new urbanists. Proposals are not limited to panel discussions: Consider doing something unique that you would like to attend.
This annual call is highly competitive; we anticipate receiving 200+ proposals for approximately 30 breakout session slots. Proposals will be reviewed and ranked according to the following benchmarks:
- Relevance to implementing and innovating new urbanist approaches.
- Strength of content: Does the proposed session present a new topic or an innovative perspective?
- Diversity of speakers: Session proposals should not only include diversity in race, gender, age, and discipline, but should also consider a mix of new and established CNU voices.
- Completeness of the proposal: Is the session fully formed? Are the speakers confirmed?
Sessions featuring the following will NOT be considered:
- Single-person or single-entity proposals, i.e., multiple speakers from the same school, firm, government, or sector.
- Incomplete session proposals.
CNU strives to diversify the voices represented at the Congress and will not allow a presenter to speak more than twice, excluding moderating roles. It is possible that a speaker will be submitted for more than two sessions. If a speaker has been submitted for more than two sessions that get approved, CNU will contact that individual to prioritize and select just two for participation.
Applications typically take 30 minutes to complete, provided you have all necessary information at hand. Please plan accordingly. Below is a list of the information you will need to submit:

- Confirmed speaker names, titles, and bios
