In many cities, towns, suburbs and rural areas, local zoning codes and land use ordinances make it illegal to create the types of vibrant, walkable communities that foster economic development, inspire job growth and feature a variety of housing options. CNU partnered with AARP to create Enabling Better Places: A Handbook for Improved Neighborhoods, designed for elected officials, policymakers, local leaders, planning professionals and involved community members. This guide provides an introduction and overview about how a town, city or county can incrementally adapt its zoning code - and in doing so become a more livable community, where people of all ages can live, work and play.
