The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a senior-, mid- and/or entry-level Transportation Planner to support the Sustainable Development program, primarily focusing on active transportation (bicycle and pedestrian) planning. These positions are an exciting opportunity to see integrated transportation and land-use planning move from theory to policy to implementation. Successful candidates will work in a fast-paced office environment with multiple priorities and assist in conducting activities related to multimodal corridor studies using context-sensitive design principles, infrastructure planning and design, complete streets, funding, speaking engagements related to active transportation planning throughout the region, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, analysis, and data management. Some specific project areas the successful candidates will assist with include: implementing a regional pedestrian safety action plan, supporting regional complete streets policies and implementation projects, providing technical assistance for the development of local pedestrian and bicycle master plans, coordinating the work of consultants for alignment studies and preliminary engineering of projects related to Regional Veloweb paths and on-street bicycle facilities, coordinating projects related to first/last mile connections to transit stations, conducting safety and education community outreach, supporting the regional Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), supporting funding programs and calls for projects initiatives, and developing active transportation project funding criteria and performance measures.
The active transportation network in the Dallas-Fort Worth region consists of more than 8,600 miles of existing and planned regional shared-use paths (Regional Veloweb), supporting community shared-use paths and on-street bikeways in various stages of development.
